BARNEYS NEW YORK × Art Launch

A Night Called “the Velvet Code”

paradise planned and managed the launch party for BARNEYS NEW YORK’s new art sales division. The event blended art, fashion, music, and nightlife, centered on the sale of iconic Andy Warhol pop art. The event was named “the Velvet Code,” inspired by the legendary dress code of Studio 54, the famous New York disco of the 1970s. By reviving that atmosphere, the event aimed to offer attendees more than just an opportunity to purchase art—it sought to create a memorable experience.

Recreating the Spirit of Studio 54

The event’s concept was to recreate the legendary 1970s New York nightclub Studio 54, symbolizing the culture of that era. BARNEYS aimed to make buying art feel freer and more intuitive. paradise researched the period’s background and atmosphere to craft an immersive experience that transported visitors back in time.

The space featured silver balloons, mirror balls, velvet, sequins, and a carefully designed rhythm of sound and light to capture the nightclub’s vibe. The production went beyond retro styling, presenting an evolved Studio 54 with a modern twist.

An Immersive Experience Where Art, Music, and Performance Intersect

The event was designed for diverse cultures to come together. Highlights included a silkscreen workshop expressing Warhol’s world, a DJ booth filled with disco music, and lively performances by drag queens. These elements created a rich, interactive experience where attendees could view, touch, dance, and converse around the art. Additionally, a video installation illuminating the artwork transformed the entire space into a gallery-like environment, blurring the lines between art and party—an aspect that received especially high praise from guests. The catering was inspired by 1970s America, completing a unified sensory experience through both sight and taste.

Supporting BARNEYS’ Effort to Redefine Art Sales

Through this project, paradise played a key role in bringing BARNEYS NEW YORK’s new art division business model to life—a concept of buying art as an experience, realized through a live event. It was neither just an exhibition nor simply a party, but a space where art genuinely lives as culture. This is the kind of work paradise excels at—the intersection of culture and commerce. Moving forward, paradise will continue to explore the philosophy behind brands and artists, blending it with the spirit of the times and multifaceted production to create meaningful experiences that go beyond ordinary events.
