A Brand and E-commerce Platform Bringing Oita’s Sake Culture to the World

Creative agency paradise was responsible for the brand website, e-commerce site development, and creative direction for BUNGO Nakagawa, a company exporting alcoholic beverages produced in Oita Prefecture.

For this project, we developed a brand platform designed to communicate the rich sake culture nurtured by Oita’s unique terroir to audiences both in Japan and abroad. At the same time, we built an e-commerce experience that allows international customers—the brand’s primary audience—to easily discover and purchase the products.

Rather than functioning solely as a retail platform, the website was designed as a storytelling space that conveys the land, people, and culture behind Oita’s sake. The entire web experience was carefully crafted to reflect these narratives.

A Brand Design That Communicates Cultural Context

BUNGO Nakagawa is a brand rooted in Oita’s natural environment and long-standing traditions of sake production.

In designing the website, we focused not only on presenting the sake and shochu products themselves, but also on visualizing the character of the land and the cultural depth of Oita’s brewing heritage.

From photography to copywriting, all creative direction was led by paradise. Under a unified creative vision, we developed a brand expression that communicates the stories behind the spirits quietly yet with a strong presence.

An E-commerce Experience as a Brand Journey

The website seamlessly integrates the brand’s world with its e-commerce functionality.

Beyond product information, features such as flavor maps and pairing maps were introduced to create new ways for users to explore and engage with the spirits. The platform was designed to go beyond a simple purchasing experience, encouraging discovery and deeper appreciation.

By carefully designing the information architecture, user journey, and visual expression, the site guides users to understand the brand, connect with its story, and naturally arrive at the products.

With international audiences in mind, this project aimed to create a digital communication platform that balances credibility as a sake and shochu brand with the cultural richness of its origins.

By thoughtfully conveying the founder’s philosophy while ensuring accessibility for global audiences, the website delivers a brand experience that is both culturally authentic and globally approachable.
